What's in a Name?

Naming a company is a tricky thing. You want it to be both memorable and clever, but perhaps not so clever that it wears out its welcome soon after you hear it for the first time. For every success — for every Apple or Google or Yahoo! — there are thousands of names that strove too hard for that Eureka moment, and have fallen away.

You also, under the most desirable of circumstances, want your name to have some sense of permanence. In the world of motion pictures, the names Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer or Paramount or Columbia are still synonymous with a sense of quality, of history, of style, of something that lasts.

That is what we were looking for when we thought of the name The Roundtable. It means two things to us: it evokes the writers and wits who gathered at the Algonquin Hotel in New York in the 1920s, and of course it is laced with the ideas of magic and storytelling, and of the myth and history that comes with the legends of the Knights of the Roundtable at King Arthur's Court.

These are both good things, because we hope to bring some storytelling and wit and style to the content we will craft at The Roundtable. This website and blog will bring you online content, short stories, movie reviews, radio dramas, book reviews, links to other movie sites, and updates on the projects relating to more traditional film product.

So, welcome to The Roundtable.
