Is there any artform that has any less respect and reverence for its own past than the film industry?
I see an
ad for a movie called "Getaway" with Ethan Hawke and I'm thinking,
uh-oh, dd they remake that again? No, its just a cheap little knockoff with the
same title as the Sam Peckinpah movie from 1972. There are only something like
15 Sam Peckinpah movies and while "The Getaway" is not great, it's
still Peckinpah, and it was already remade once (terribly) and now this.
I know
it's a little thing, but there are entire websites devoted to unrelated movies
with the same title. It's lazy and it's too bad, but no other artform trashes
its own past like the movie industry.
